ABOUT US

Bucknell P3 (Parish Path Partnership) Group was formed in December 2006 (local Coordinator: Mike Starr (01547 530179)

A P3 Group consists of local volunteers who liaise with Shropshire Council to help improve the condition of Countrywide Access and Rights of Way in their area.

Bucknell and Bedstone parish was designated an “Action Area” for 2007-8 (along with Stowe, Hopton Castle and Clungunford). During this period the Council improved the condition and accessibility of the Rights of Way in these parishes which entailed renewing or refurbishing stiles, gates, sign posts etc.

The parish of Bedstone & Bucknell

When this was completed, the P3 Group monitored the paths and assisted in their maintenance where feasible. This could include removing undergrowth, repairing stiles etc. The Council runs courses and provide the necessary tools.

At present the group comprises 7 volunteers. Anyone who has an interest in our local Rights of Way and wishes to join the group should contact Mike Starr.

Alternatively, if anyone simply has any comments to make about the condition of the paths in the parish and surrounding area, then please let Mike Starr know.

Clungunford - replace footplates to stile

"It won't take long," we said, as we set off to replace a couple of footplates on a stile by the main road near Clungunford.

Mike parked his car quite close to the stile and we carried out sit up to the stile. The lowest footplate came out easily and we soon planted the new supports. Then we had to go foraging for stones/rocks to shore up the posts. We visited an adjacent (muddy of course) field and gathered quite a few stones and returned would our booty. We tamped them in and removed the tall post stumps after a bit of difficulty and after planting them we were off to the filed yet again for rocks.
Job done!

The whole job took a good 2 hours but we figured the job was worth doing. As an afterthought, and to use up a few spare stones we straightened up a nearby leaning waymark post.
