ABOUT US

Bucknell P3 (Parish Path Partnership) Group was formed in December 2006 (local Coordinator: Mike Starr (01547 530179)

A P3 Group consists of local volunteers who liaise with Shropshire Council to help improve the condition of Countrywide Access and Rights of Way in their area.

Bucknell and Bedstone parish was designated an “Action Area” for 2007-8 (along with Stowe, Hopton Castle and Clungunford). During this period the Council improved the condition and accessibility of the Rights of Way in these parishes which entailed renewing or refurbishing stiles, gates, sign posts etc.

When this was completed, the P3 Group monitored the paths and assisted in their maintenance where feasible. This could include removing undergrowth, repairing stiles etc. The Council runs courses and provide the necessary tools.

At present the group comprises 7 volunteers. Anyone who has an interest in our local Rights of Way and wishes to join the group should contact Mike Starr.

Alternatively, if anyone simply has any comments to make about the condition of the paths in the parish and surrounding area, then please let Mike Starr know.

Kissing gates in Bucknell

Mike Geri and Graham met up with Phil Betts, the Parish Path Partnership Officer, to replace 3 stiles along the footpath between St Mary's church and Daffodil Lane in Bucknell.

The first gate was to go in at the Daffodil Lane end, however we were thwarted by the tree and it's roots which criss-crossed the footpath, and eventually after a lot of jiggling about with the kissing gate set up we compromised on a straightforward gate.

The remaining stiles proved much easier to remove and the new kissing gates were both installed on the same day.

Just a quick heave and out
with the old one
and in with the new
Stile number 2
this looks easier

a bit of shovelling
and tamping
and another one done

Job nearly done!

We are very grateful to Phil Betts for helping us complete the work.
